The 25th of July, 2010 was the birth date of Sri Alavandar (Yamunacharya). Adiyen would simply refer to him as the great person who ‘started it all’. He was responsible to a great extent in influencing Sri Ramanujacharya in embarking on the path to Sri Vaishnava enlightenment. And thus has passed it on to all of us. Adiyen thanks Sri Alavandar immensely to have stepped into this Bhuloka, to ensure we all seek enlightenment. The other divine people to thank would be Sri Nathamuni (his grandfather) had taken great pains to compile the Divya Prabanda’s divine verses. And Sri Manakkal Nambi had also put in immense efforts in educating and bringing Sri Alavandar into the fold of truth.

Sri Alavandar’s birth day coincides with the occurrence of the incident of ‘Gajendra Moksham’ occurred. Several thousands of years ago, an elephant which used to offer a lotus flower to Vishnu at the temple everyday found itself caught in the jaws of a crocodile. We are all like the elephant in trouble. Adimoolame! That singular cry resulted in Gajendra’s rescue. In a similar fashion, we cry out to the lord to come rescue us from the entrapment of false prestige, ego, materialism and the like.

There are many stories and teachings, extremely profound which have taken birth in this great land. It is upto us to imbibe such lessons in the way we live our lives.
