Dear Perumale,

Today is the birth nakshatra (Avittam) of Sri Bhuthath Azhwar. He was one of the earliest to describe the use of the power of our emotions, interest and dedication as means to obtaining a vision of the lord.

Dear Perumale,

In the invocation before the beginning of the Vishnu Sahasranamam slokas is the verse:

‘Yasya Dwirada Vakradyaah, Paarishadyaah Parasadham

Vignam Nignanthi Sathatham, VISHWAKSENAM Thamaasraye.’

This verse pays homage to the commander-in-chief of Sri Vishnu’s army – Sri Vishwaksena – who controls the several two-tusked elephant warriors and other beings who serve in this army.

Senai Mudaliar or Vishwaksena and his army

Sri Vishwaksena is none other than Senai Mudaliar. His nakshatram was observed on the 1st of November for 2011. His nakshatram is Pooradam in the month of Aippasi.

Dear Vishwaksena, may you keep protecting the realm of Sri Vaikuntam.

Dear Perumale,

The lord who slayed Narakasura and destroyed the evil within us…

Sri Krishna rescues 16,100 women abducted by Narakasura!

The lord who returned to Ayodhya after having destroyed the ten-headed Ravana and thus the 10 forms of vices…

Lord Sri Rama returns to Ayodhya with Seeta and Lakshmana

We observed these events and paid respect to the lord this Deepavali on the 26th of October, 2011.

It is believed that this is also the period during which Sri Maha Lakshmi emerged during the churning of the milky ocean when the Kurma avatar of the lord had descended. Adiyen’s respects on the appearance of mother Lakshmi.

Mahalakshmi - the benevolent Goddess and consort of Sriman Narayana, appears from the churning of the ocean
